4/1: Rejection

Like most high school seniors, I applied to college last fall. And like most high school seniors, I spent months agonizingly awaiting the letters. But unlike most of us, I applied to 11 schools and went to 7 auditions for BFA progams. This of course means that I had to wait through 11 letters. The last one came today. Here are my totals:

Acceptances: 1
Wait Lists: 2
Rejections: 8

I got rejected from more schools than most of my friends applied to. I know that I'm lucky to get in to any BFA program because two of my friends didn't and they are crushed but still. 8 rejection letters. It stings a little bit.

They all say the same thing. "We had more applications than ever and it was a very talented pool and a very difficult decision to make." I don't know why they think this helps. I would much prefer if they just sent me a letter that said:

Dear Catherine:

No.

Sincerely,
[insert school here]

Or better yet, can they consolidate? Could I receive one letter that says:

Dear Catherine:

No.

Sincerely,
Columbia, Barnard, Pace, Fordham, Northwestern, DePaul, NYU, and U-M

But maybe worse than the rejections are the wait lists. "We like you, we just like several hundred people more than you. But we'll let you know if any of them don't come! Not until you've already sent your deposit somewhere else though..." Like, seriously Sarah Lawrence? I'll definitely know by July 15? You mean by the time I've already divided all of the important things up with my roommates at another school, I'll know whether or not you're going to let me in? How kind.

So anyway, it looks like I'll be matriculating with the Marymount Manhattan College Class of 2015 as a BFA Acting major! At least somewhere wanted me...

Today is awesome because: I got to have an actual face-to-face conversation with a friend that I haven't spoken to non-electronically in months. I miss him.
